This might not seem like a big deal to some but to me it is cataclysmic! Rumor has it that Madonna wants to star in a remake of Casablanca! She and her representatives have been shopping the project around, an anonymous Hollywood source told Showbizspy.com. “The reception has been luke warm to say the least.” Ya think?

First of all, Casablanca is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. The script is used literally, in screen writing classes as an example of the “perfect script”. Now Madonna wants to come and spice it up a little. No doubt.

I don’t want to be cruel but look what happened to Guy Ritchie’s career. He was considered an amazing new talent in the film world. Then he cast his wife in another remake: Swept Away. Everyone involved in that movie should have been slapped, except for the hot Italian with the six pack. It’s been a while and still no come back for Mr. Ritchie. Just Lock, Stock and Nothing, whatsoever. It sucks. I’m a fan of his films. I’m also a fan of his wife…kind of…sort of.

I don’t buy her music but I always love to watch her on TV. She is a genius at reinventing herself time and time again. That is no small feat. She is an icon and rightfully so. The inability to reinvent herself as an actress however, remains her biggest obstacle.

My observation is that she just looks plain self aware on the big screen. I think that in her life, she controls everthing and everyone around her to the point where there is no room for mistakes. Acting has an entirely different approach than music, coffee table books or riding midgets around a room with a riding crop. Acting at it’s best is raw and visceral. The attempt to control a performance on screen just looks wrong. Period.

And now she wants to remake an iconic film and play an iconic role originated by Ingrid Bergman?!

If God can kill a woman by hitting her in the face with a stingray, then God can stop Madonna. He has to. It is the kind of thing that seems on par with beastiality or wearing poly-cotton blends. It is against everything we hold dear. In fact with a little interpretive analysis, I bet we can find it listed in Leviticus 18. Please God! Please! Stop madonna from acting.

All in all, I guess it’s not going to kill anyone (except for the director’s career). No one will pay to see it. I know I won’t. But I feel bad for Madonna. How many times can you fall off a horse? She must have the thickest skin of anyone alive. But it’s her road to follow, not mine.

If nothing else, she is determined.
